A little nervous to have all eyes on you on the big day? You aren’t alone. Many couples feel the exact same way. Here are a few ways to get comfortable in front of a crowd.
Shower shyness
It’s normal to feel awkward at any social occasion that puts the spotlight on you, even the bridal shower. Opening gifts while everyone watches? It can be daunting. So don’t open the gifts at the shower. If people complain (weird), it may be easier to go live on Facebook or Instagram after the event, open gifts and thank guests.
Toast troubles
If you’re worried about giving a speech in front of your guests, or even saying your vows before your family and friends, go to a Toastmasters class. They assist with confidence and public speaking skills.
Practise makes perfect
Rehearse your speech and vows at home in front of the mirror. A little prep work can go a long way.
Dance like nobody is watching
Two left feet? Who cares! The first dance is all about connecting with your partner, not putting on a show. But if you want to brush up on your skills, take some dances lessons with your fiancé or on your own. Leading up to your wedding day, turn up the tunes at home and let loose. Whether you feel like you have skills or not, dancing is meant to be fun and expressive, not a chore.
Dress the part
Wearing too-high heels or a dress you aren’t comfortable in can heighten your anxiety. Wear something that makes you feel good and allows maximum ease of mobility.
Perfect your inner circle
Surround yourself with positive people. Your family and friends should be there to support you on your big day, not cause unnecessary drama. Select your wedding party carefully – the ones who will give you a gentle nudge to the microphone and applaud your dance moves. Having special people in your corner will give you an extra boost of confidence.
